Sometimes it is difficult to think of an answer to demonstrate these skills though. Remember that it is better to say something than sit in silence. There are some tricks that you can use if your mind goes blank.
Firstly, you could repeat the question, for example:
Examiner: Do you believe that Governments can do more to protect the environment?
Candidate: Hhhmm do I believe that Governments can do more to protect the environment?
Be careful to repeat the question correctly though.
Alternatively, you could think aloud, for example:
Candidate: Yes I do, let me think though. How could Governments do more to protect the environment? Well, there are a many things that could be done to help the situation. And some countries are more pro-active than others. But, generally speaking…
It is also useful to know a few phrases which you can use to give yourself time to think.
